Crime and Punishment´´is a novel written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and published in 1866. The plot revolves around Rodion Raskolnikov, a student living in poverty in St. Petersburg. Raskolnikov feels superior to others and, convinced that his intelligence gives him the right to act outside moral norms, he decides to commit murder. His intention is to justify this act as a means to a greater end, but what follows is a devastating internal struggle.
After carrying out the crime, Raskolnikov is caught in a storm of guilt and paranoia. His conscience constantly torments him, leading him to experience profound psychological suffering. As the story progresses, he is confronted with ethical and philosophical dilemmas about the nature of good and evil, as well as what justice and punishment really mean.
